Holiness. The word triggers all kinds of reactions: does it describe a God who is distant and cold, usually angry, or a God for whom my best is never good enough? And what about "our" holiness . . . we all know the daily struggle to make godly choices and how often we fail . . . So, what is this thing we call "holiness?" It isn't a word you are going to use anywhere else except in the context of faith. Maybe that is why it is helpful to think about some synonyms.
