"Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever."
This quote, from the Westminster Shorter Catechism, is an excellent summary of what it means for us to be God's image-bearers. The glory of God is not something we generate, but it is the nature and character of God which we reflect as we complete our roles as His stewards and representatives.
Enjoying God is not a concept frequently considered, but since God did create us for relationship with Him and with one another, it does stand to reason there should be satisfaction and joy in those relationships. God designed life to be lived joyfully and with great satisfaction. Unfortunately, sin distorts and often destroys our ability to live like that, but our redemption and reconciliation to God restores that ability, both now and for eternity.
